Elcon Associates Inc. is seeking a bright detail oriented designer to join our substation design group.
The position available is for a candidate who has experience designing rack layout and wiring diagrams including point-to-point wiring, cable lists, and Bill of Materials. The preferred candidate will have experience working with Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) drawings and be familiar with their design standards. This position requires someone who can work in a fast paced deadline driven environment.
- 5+ Years of experience
- In depth knowledge of how to use drafting programs such as MicroStation.
- Experience reading and modifying trip/close schematics and rack wiring diagrams
- Experience with BPA is preferred, but designers with experience working for other utilities will be considered.
- Proficiency with the current Microsoft Office suite
The substation engineering team works on variety of projects including complete substation design, relay replacements, and substation upgrades. Current projects include a design of a wind farm interconnection substation, SER/SCADA D.20 replacements, transfer trip upgrades, and line relay protection replacements.
Senior Substation Engineer, PE
Primary duties include working with a team of engineers and junior engineers to complete various substation design projects.
Responsibilities include provide engineering expertise and oversight for developing substation single-line, physical layout, grounding, AC & DC control schematics, control house layout, relay & control panel layout & wirings, SCADA interface, and preparation of bill of material & construction cost estimates. The senior engineer will be responsible for ensuring quality and technical correctness of projects under their management.
Responsibilities for the senior position also will include business development and technical proposal preparation.
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering is required. Strong analytical skills are desirable. Professional licensed engineers are preferred. 10+ years experience in high voltage substation design is required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work with other design team members are necessary.
Electrical Engineer, PE
Elcon is looking for an experienced engineer with a current Professional Engineering license. The successful candidate will be responsible for working in teams of 2-3 engineers to complete substation design projects.
Project types include substation layout modification (circuit breaker installation, transformer specifications, new pre-fab control house), relay protection and control design, and Arc Flash/breaker coordination studies.
BS in Electrical Engineering and a Professional Engineering license are required. Strong analytical skills are desirable. 5+ years experience in medium to high voltage substation design is preferred. The ability to work in a fast-paced team environment is necessary.
Traction Power Systems Engineer
Primary duties include design of AC/DC traction power substations and distribution systems for commuter rail, heavy rail, light rail, and streetcar projects.
Responsibilities will include preparing single line diagrams, metering and relaying schematics, substation equipment layouts, conduit and cable plans, ground mats, power and lighting design. Responsibilities also include conducting load flow studies and short circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, grounding design, relay coordination studies, and arc flash hazard analysis.
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering is required. Strong analytical skills are desirable. Professional licensed engineers are preferred. 10+ years experience in traction power substation design is required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work with other design team members are necessary.
